Please scan and upload your basement finishing plan. Plans must be clearly drawn to scale, show space names, dimensions, ceiling height, structural elements, walls, doors, windows, egress window/s, smoke/CO detectors, exits, stairs and other details for building code compliance. Do not proceed with work prior to obtaining a permit and contact the Building Department at 763-755-8700 to verify acceptability of plans. You may be contacted by the Building Department if plans are incomplete or otherwise unacceptable.
If basement bedrooms are being added and the residence has a septic system, the septic system must be sized for the total number of bedrooms. Please call 763-755-8700 to verify septic system sizing. A basement finishing permit may be delayed by septic system verification. Additional permits may be required for septic, plumbing, electrical and mechanical work.
