In the area southwest of the WDE Landfill there are properties that are not serviced by the municipal water system from the City of Andover. Recent water sampling from some private wells in this area has revealed the presence of the chemical 1,4-dioxane above state health-based guidance values.
The City of Andover’s municipal water supply (City Water) has been tested and is clean and safe and meets all Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) regulatory standards.
MDH and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) are continuing to collect water samples in order to determine the extent of contamination. Residents within the study area with private wells have received requests from the MPCA to sample their well. Where results are above the health-based guidance value, residents will be provided bottled water as a short-term solution. The agency will then work with the City to identify and implement the best long-term solution to providing clean safe drinking water. An informational meeting has been scheduled.
